- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 September 2024This item is an absolute waste of money. Doesn't fit all bikes so if you do intend to purchase it please check compatibility with your bike first. Then be aware that the parts of the product do not fit together easily. For example the lock pin does not fit through the intended holes without 20 mins of hammering at it. All in all there are some significant design flaws and I really could not recommend the product.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 December 2023I have fitted it ready to use.
It's a bit fiddly but easy to install with YouTube, the instructions are not very simple however I do have a couple of points.
Firstly, you get plastic protective nuts, for the child's side I only have 3, I need 4.
Secondly and most importantly, if you care about your child's bike paint you need to put something in between the v shaped clamp, it's very sharp otherwise it'll eat in to the paint of the bike.
I cant find a manufacturers website to request a protective nut.
I'd give 5 star because the product is good but these points drop it to 4.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 April 2022Pros:
- Once assembled it works
- Great for taking less confident riders out for a fun family day out
- It costs a lot less than purpose made bikes that attach to the rear of an adult bike
- You can bring two children with one adult bike, e.g. this product plus a child seat (weeRide)
- It fits the exact need I purchased it for
Cons:
- Assembly isn’t overly straight forward and the supplied instructions aren’t good. Search YouTube for an assembly video from ETC (even this isn’t great). It will take longer than the advised 30 minutes in the instruction manual.
- You WILL damage your child’s bike without putting padding between the ETC components and your child’s bike. I used a cut up sponge to go between the components and bike which allows you to tighten everything fully and not cause scratches/dents.
- Once everything is in place you MUST fully tighten every bolt/nut/component as much as you can. Any slack will result in your child’s bike tipping, tilting or unseating your child. We had two initial trips abruptly end due to near misses caused by this.
- You’ll need to do a few rides on the pavements around your house first to test everything works before going for a longer ride; be prepared to bring everything back to your garden/garage to fit/adjust multiple times.
- When riding you cannot perform abrupt or short turns. You will have to alter how you ride your bike so as not to unseat your child, e.g. a much larger turning circle.
Summary:
- You get what you pay for.
- Worse than dedicated ride along bikes
- Great for taking the kids out for a spin once assembled and you’ve altered your riding style to accommodate it
- I would purchase it again
- ETC could make a better version of this that has padding between their components and the parts intended to contact the child’s bike
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 July 2021I was looking for an option to take my son out on further rides as he's just come off his stabilisers. I had seen the link up bikes but then I stumbled across the towbuddy and thought this would be a much better option as I have recently brought my son a new bike so I didn't want the expense of the link up style bike as well.
I have to say, I am delighted at how great this item is as it allows my son to be towed along with ease allowing him to pedal as well or coast along and let me do the work. When we arrived at some local cycle paths it was great to detach him and let him ride as he's at the stage where he needs to develop his confidence and this is great for giving you the option to tow him or let him ride alone.
I also like, when not in use it folds down so you don't have to worry about storing it but then within a minute or two I can connect it to my sons bike.
I would highly recommend this product for anyone with a young child who is at that stage where they need to either come of stabilisers or have come off them but can't manage the longer rides or have the confidence. Our family rides have just gotten better.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 April 2022Bought in March, took alot of fidgeting to put on, 1st time off came loose so had to really tighten and tighten after every use, only to use it for the 3rd time and it snapped when turning sending my 4 year old flying onto the round, thankfully no cars were around but still got a few cuts and bruises. It wasn't overly pushed ie not off reading etc, just taking it round the streets and turned the corner to feel the crunch and find my toddler lying screaming in the middle of the road. Not made of good mental at all.
Leaving this review as the money they are changing for flimsy work to not even offer a replacement as it's out with it'd return date.
If this is what your looking for, find another one.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 July 2022The fixing units which attach to your seat post, and the one which attaches to the child bike wobble from side to side, leading to the child bike twisting.
This happened whilst riding along and caused an accident as the seat post fixing twisted horizontally despite having been fully tightened before setting off. I have taken photos of the amount of twist to the fixings that happened after 20 mins of riding (removed the bar to show clearly)- adult bike the fixing should stay directly behind the seat post but has spun to the left. On the child's bike the fixings have spun round rather than staying straight in front the bike.
To make matters worse the fixings have ruined the paintwork on my daughters bike- they are just bare metal so if tightened up fully they caused deep scratches. Cannot request a refund as more than 30 days past purchase. Very unhappy- take my advice and avoid this piece of junk!
